  • The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute (ETIDI) said it has earned 140 million USD from the export of textile and garment products.

    Director General of the Institute, Sileshi Lema, said the institute has discussed the implementation of the 11-month plan for the 2013 Ethiopian budget year. Industrial parks have been built and put into operation to boost the textile and garment sector.

    Foreign and domestic investors in the sector said they have earned 140 million USD from exporting their products over the past 11 months.
    He noted that the product was destined for the United States, Canada, Turkey, Italy and Germany.
    He said 22 studies have been completed this year to enable the textile sector to be competitive in the world market by modernizing and maintaining its quality.
    The Director General explained: According to ENA, it is planned to produce 170,000 tons of raw cotton on 150,000 hectares of land to alleviate the shortage of raw materials in the sector.

  • This year's Special Taste Coffee Tasting Competition was held.

    The event aims to promote winning coffee to international buyers.
    State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Zion Tekle, as well as the Director General of the Coffee and Tea Authority, Dr. Adugna Debela, heads of coffee associations, embassy representatives and the invited audience were present at the event.

  • More than 279 billion birr has been collected in the 2013 Ethiopian budget year, said Minister of Revenue, Lake Ayalew.

    He said the ministry has planned to collect 290 billion birr and achieved 96.2 percent of the plan.
    He said the plan has increased by 19.6 percent or 45 billion birr compared to the same period last year.
    According to the ministry, the plan as the situation in the cholera epidemic and the situation in the Tigray region as well as other areas is encouraging.
